One pot Creole pasta

If you have made my One Pot Basil Shrimp Pasta recipe, you know that I’m a sucker for easy meals with simple ingredients. The less work I have to do during the week, the better. And this One Pot Shrimp Creole Pasta has become top-tier in my household.

The creaminess and flavors of the pasta is similar to the Louisiana chicken pasta at the Cheesecake Factory. Some of the ingredients are the same, except the proteins. If you would like to substitute chicken for the shrimp, I recommend searing the chicken with the sausage links just until browned before following the remaining directions.

For this recipe, using Cajun style andouille will provide the best flavors, but kielbasa or any smoked sausages will work just fine. I only recommend not using any cured meats such as chorizo or salami as it may overpower the dish.

If you like spice and are a fan of my One Pot Salmon Pasta, you will enjoy this One Pot Shrimp Creole Pasta. It’s just as easy to make, if not easier, and can be made in under 30 minutes.

Equipment

  • 1 pot

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. creole seasoning (homemade or any brand of your choice)
  • ½ lb. Jumbo raw shrimp, deveined, tails removed, and cut into thirds
  • 1 Tbl. Olive oil
  • 2 Cajun sausage links, sliced into ½-inch coins
  • ½ yellow onion, diced (about 1 cup)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ red bell pepper, diced (about ½ cup)
  • ½ cup cremini mushrooms, sliced (about 6-8 mushrooms total)
  • 2 Tbl. butter
  • 1 Tbl. All-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbl. tomato pasta
  • 1/4 slice lemon wedge, juiced
  • 2 cups chicken stock (or water)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz. bow tie or penne pasta
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp and creole seasoning together until well combined. Set aside and allow to rest.
  • In a large pot over medium-heat, add in oil. Once hot, add the sausages and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until lightly browned. Transfer sausages to a bowl, leaving any drippings behind in the pot and set aside.
  • In the same pot, add in the onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, and garlic. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the onion is translucent and veggies are tender.
  • Add in the butter and lemon juice. Stir for 1 minute.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low.
  • Stir in the tomato paste and flour. Continue to mix and cook for 1 more minute.
  • Stir in the stock (or water if using), heavy cream, and pasta.
  • Cover the pot with a lid and cook for 10-12 minutes.
  • After 10-12 minutes, uncover the pot and add in the cooked sausages and shrimp. Cook uncovered for 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove the pot from the heat, cover the pot once more, and let rest for 10 minutes. No peeking!
  • After the last 10 minutes, stir in the red pepper flakes (is using) and grated parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Serve with bread or your choice of sides.
